About Viking Appliances
Viking started in Greenwood, Mississippi. Founder Fred Carl Jr. could not find a range for his own home that had the power of a restaurant stove, so he designed one. The first Viking ranges shipped in January 1987 and created the "professional-style" category for home kitchens.
Viking now also makes ovens, cooktops, ventilation, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers and wine cellars. The Middleby Corporation, a foodservice equipment company from Elgin, Illinois, bought Viking on December 31, 2012.
